Schatz’s win in Heat 1 put him sixth on the starting grid. Schatz set fast time in qualifying and then won his heat from the fifth starting position following the traditional Kings Royal heat race inversion. ROSSBURG, OH – J– Donny Schatz turned in a perfect score card and walked away with a $50,000 check after dominating the 34th annual Kings Royal for the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Sprint Car Series at Eldora Speedway on Saturday night in front of a record Kings Royal crowd. Given the state of Peterborough's future I understand reticence to spend too much on either of the businesses.Race Story RECORD CROWD SEES KING DONNY GO BACK-TO-BACK Īdd in the derbies that Peterborough and KL have together which bring decent (ish), away followings and you will have some ok return without breaking the bank in points money. When Doyle, Emil, Bewley, Holder, Fricke, (and Laguta ) visit, then crowds will at least be two or three hundred up at each match as those who have dropped off turn up, meaning another £30k or so from the four matches against the teams with GP opposition. I have little or no knowledge about other tracks attendances dependent on whether they are competitive or not but Peterborough’s are, it’s something I mentioned to Buster when he took over, poor results will affect Peterborough attendances, the football attendances are similarly affected at the Posh.īut if you are spending more to generate "not enough" to pay for "the more", then you would be better off budgeting for keeping your costs as low as you can. Hence a winning or losing season often doesnt generate massive differences in crowd levels at most tracks.Īs for "regime change"? Well not attending at all will easily facilitate that, but with the sport losing tracks so quickly, and no real financial rewards available, who would put their money into it to replace the current promoters? Keeping the sport going and getting to the end of the season is no mean achievement for a fair amount of them given the state the sport is in in the UK I would suggest.įor the majority of followers nowadays, I would suggest the racing is the key driver for them to attend, rather than the match outcome, hence they dont get too concerned about performances, but are content to accept that they have a meeting to attend again the next time. The relevance of your team winning or losing is very small to the overall UK Speedway plan. I get the frustrations of following "your team" but, in all honesty, I think the promoters see putting out "any" Speedway as their main remit. Time for Buster and Co to pull something out of that hat. If the die hards didn't then there would be no speedway, and do true fans really want that. And before i get the "well if you still go then you are the problem" brigade start. I wonder what Panthers fans would think if it was the other way around? Anyway it looks like Lynn's faithful may have had enough, looking at the unusually crap attendances at this stage so far. Almost the same pic we saw when he won the league with his other club. We won our only meeting late on it the season that year, and i remember Allit jumping up and down on the track, fists clenched, while the riders walked the through the crowd getting pats on the back and fist bumped. Before i get pounced on, they have every right to complain after the start they have made.īeing there every week( AFA) in 21 when the Panthers won the league was sole destroying for me and i'm guessing many more. Guess what neither has Busters " beloved" Stars. Their team looked better than ours !! I get they haven't started well (Take a bow NP), before they start. What gets under my skin is the Panthers fans moaning after their 1st meeting. Still felt like a kick in the teeth for us loyal Lynn fans, who have been turning up week in week out for god knows how many years, well it did for me anyway. When it was announced i thought oh FFS, but i understood why Buster did it at the time. It did the Panthers/Prem a favour at the time i think. Both clubs could be so good for each other. Well Pboro certainly been more successful in the top league than Kings Lynn have with 0 titles to there name - personally I think both clubs need a new start under different promotions- Buster owning both clubs has done neither clubs any favours both have suffered at the others expense and even the rivalry has gone out of it now. ![]()
